Localizada nas margens do rio Neva, e considerada capital do Norte, São Petersburgo é quarta maior cidade da Europa.

Fundada pelo Czar Pedro I, o Grande, em 1703, foi capital da Rússia durante quase dois séculos. O desejo de modernização e aproximação deste Império aos costumes ocidentais conduziram Czar Pedro a uma série de reformas na Rússia, de onde se destaca o planeamento urbanístico de São Petersburgo.

Uma cidade fenomenal onde a imponente arquitectura é considerada património mundial da UNESCO. A forte herança cultural e histórica são visíveis ao longo de uma série de monumentos, como por exemplo o magnífico Hermitage (um dos 221 museus que a cidade oferece), o Forte de Pedro e Paulo, o Palácio de Mármore, a Catedral de Santo Isaac e de Nossa Senhora de Cazã.

Nos arredores da cidade encontra o chamado "Versailles Russo", ou Peterhof. Mais de 1000 hectares de história no seu maior esplendor. Terá demorado cerca de dez anos a ser construído, estando mais uma vez Czar Pedro por trás do planeamento deste imponente monumento. Aqui poderá visitar mais de 19 palacetes, vilas e pavilhões, rodeados por um magnífico jardim com a "grande cascata" em destaque. Nada mais que uma imponente fonte que se prolonga até ao Mar Báltico através de um grande canal.

Se quiser realizar esta viagem entre os meses de Maio e Junho poderá ainda observar o fenómeno natural "sol da-meia-noite".

Located on Neva River banks, St. Petersburg is considered the capital of the North and the fourth largest city in Europe.
Founded in 1703 by Czar Peter I, the Great, was the capital of Russia for almost two centuries. The desire for modernization and to approach Russia to the Western customs led Czar Peter in to a series of reforms, such as the urban planning of St. Petersburg.
A phenomenal city where stands out the imposing architecture considered world heritage by UNESCO. The strong cultural and historical heritage are visible along a series of monuments, such as the magnificent Hermitage (one of the 221 museums that the city offers ), the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Marble Palace, St. Isaac 's Cathedral and Our Lady of Kazan.
In the surrounding area is located the so called "Russian Versailles", or Peterhof with over 1,000 acres of history in its greatest splendor. Took about ten years to be built, with Czar Peter once again behind the planning of this imposing monument. Here you can visit more than 19 palaces, pavilions and villas, surrounded by a magnificent garden, where stands the "big waterfall". Nothing more than an imposing fountain that extends to the Baltic Sea through a large canal.
If you want to make this trip between the months of May and June you can still see the natural phenomenon "midnight sun".
